Ask What season do you think the paintings show and why? (Spring)

(students give answers: I think it's spring because the weather is… The trees are … The sun is …There is …. I can see ….)

Help with questions if necessary:

Can you see green trees? (No)
Can you see leaves in the trees?
Can you see snow? (Yes)
Can you see grass? (Yes)
Is there a lot of water? (Yes)
Are there any flowers? (No)
Can you see birds? (Yes)
How is the weather? (It's warm. It's sunny.)

Presentation:

1. Say You were right. All these paintings show springtime. Today we are going to talk about spring in Russian art. Show the pictures on the computer presentation again (Приложение 1) and tell learners the name of the picture and the artist:

1. "Spring" B. Kustodiev (Слайд 2),

2." Spring. Big water" I. Levitan (Слайд 3),

3. "March" I. Levitan (Слайд 4).

2. Show the worksheet and explain the task. Ask learners to read the picture description and match the correct painting (Приложение 2).

Check the answers.

3. Ask Which picture do you like best and why? (students give answers: I like …. by Levitan best because…)

Practice:

1. Show the learners the portrait of Vivaldi, the greatest Italian composer (Приложение 1) (Слайд 5). Ask them to listen to his piece of music called 'Spring' and say what they imagine when listening. Ask them to start like this: I imagine that it's spring. The weather is … The birds are …)

2. Ask learners to work in pairs and make a list of ideas proving that spring is the best season. When finished, ask them to say their ideas out loud in turns. The winner is the pair which gives more arguments.

Production:

1. Show a handmade spring painting created by means of application (Приложение 1) (Слайд 6).

2. Provide students with necessary materials.

3. Say

  • Get a piece of blue paper. This is our sky.
  • Stick the cutout sun onto the sky.
  • Get a strip of white paper and stick it below. This is our snow.
  • Take the strips of brown paper to make trees.
  • Draw leaves.
  • Take the cutout birdhouse and place it on the tree.

(students follow your instructions)

4. After the learners have finished, ask them to speak about their picture in front of the class.Speak about your picture as an example first.

Model: This is my spring painting. The sky is blue. It's sunny. There is a little snow on the ground. There is a red birdhouse in the tree. The trees have small leaves. I like my picture (Приложение 1) (Слайд 6).

Ending of the lesson:
